What kind of Walt Disney World fan are you?

What kind of Walt Disney World fan are you?

Nostalgic?

Are you one who is bothered by Dumbo being moved to the New Fantasyland location?  How do you feel about the loss of Splash Mountain?  Do you miss the original paint colors of Cinderella Castle?  Maybe you mourn the loss of the original Haunted Mansion storyline.  Do you miss the smell of the orange groves on Soarin' over California?

New?

Are you thrilled by every new announcement of attractions closing to create space for new ones?  Do you love Mickey's Runaway Mine Train more than the Great Movie Ride?  Are you excited when there is an announcement about an upcoming new attraction like Tiana's Bayou Adventure?

Wondering what Walt would think?

Have you heard others say, "What would Walt think about...?" and wondered what he would think about the Disney Parks and Resorts changes?
Walt once said:
"Disneyland will never be completed.  It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world."

If that is how he felt about Disneyland, the same is likely true for Walt Disney World.  We should expect it to continue to grow and change.

Can I have my cake and eat it, too?

After countless visits to Walt Disney World, I am filled with nostalgia.  I adore the Walt Disney World of yesterday because I have core memories with my family and friends that fill me with joy.  I can walk through every park and highlight the exact spots where a special memory occurred.  Whether it was the spot on Hollywood Boulevard where I was pulled from my curb seat into the daily parade to dance with characters or the first time I spotted a Hidden Mickey walking through the International Gateway at Epcot.  I always love riding Dumbo because it is the first attraction I recall riding with my dad.

Yet, without new additions, I would not have the cherished memory of visiting Animal Kingdom with my mom during a soft launch in early April 1998 and sharing thoughts on the now-extinct boat ride.  Without change, we would be without Test Track, Galaxy's Edge, Toy Story Land, and resorts like Boardwalk and Yacht and Beach Club.

So, as much as I dislike saying goodbye to favorites like The Great Movie Ride, Osbourne Family Spectacle of Lights, Splash Mountain, and the spontaneity of choosing a park based on which bus arrives first (Annual Passholder problems), I embrace the spirit of Walt Disney and imagine a World where I can capture the memories of yesterday while creating new ones today!
